Sure we had to wait but it was worth it. It is pure theatre, watching the cook prepare 3 to 5 dishes at a time. He's been on the line for eight years now. The music is a little frantic too. Only come if you like high energy. Not a place where you'll sit for an hour and chat. So glad we stumbled into this place.
Best Thai meal in memory. Sure we had to wait but it was worth it. There is usually a line to wait behind and I don't mind that so much, but if the waitress lets people who did not wait in line sit before us service needs to be organized better. So one tip: Make sure the waitress KNOWS you're there. FOOD: 3/5 here it's pretty good, but I prefer Araya's place for a less greasy and more fresher taste. This place gives a generous hand on salt and sauce. So you will NEED your rice or noodles. I ordered the spicy broccoli dish and it was kind of over salty but the flavors did mend together decently. I tried my friend's noodles and it was good but again salty and the portions were kind of small here. I wish there was descriptions of pricing on the menu and how to order but its not really shown... Atmosphere: 3/5 Super dark here I feel like I can't see anyone really and its super cramped as well because of all the people.
Thai Tom seems to always be popping with people. 36824 review-fast-service-open-kitchen-makes fast-service-open-kitchen-makes http://www.thaitom.feedback/review-fast-service-open-kitchen-makes 2913 8 8 8 0 1 -1 Fast service. Open kitchen makes for great entertainment. I had a great seat in front of the sauce and garnish station with view of all the burners where the chef was tossing woks. I sat at the bar - close quarters with other patrons. I ordered the panang curry that came with rice on a 1-5 spicy scale. It. came with onions, bell peppers and basil. Pretty simple. The curry was a little sweet- I don't normally order panang but I do get curry often, so I'm not sure if panang is sweeter than normal. Food was good! Menu is on a piece of wood- not very long which makes choosing easy, actually. Not mind blowing, but speedy service, no frills, live entertainment/open kitchen and friendly servers. Decent prices too. I'd recommend Thai Tom to someone who's in the area and needs a quick bite. I want to try more Thai in the U district, but I'd definitely come back.
Fast service. 36823 review-great-service-really-good-food great-service-really-good-food http://www.thaitom.feedback/review-great-service-really-good-food 8 8 8 0 0 0 Not great service, but really good food. It's not overly saucy like some places can get. The portion is smaller than you can find at other Thai places on the Ave, but sometimes I'm just really craving that wok-blackened noodle that is special to Thai Tom. I usually order 1 star less spicy at Thai Tom than I would at other places... it seems like as you go up in numbers at Thai Tom it gets exponentially spicier. I love it in the moment and I hate myself after, so I've learned that lesson! This place is tiny and crammed. It gets really hot in the summer, especially by the bar. I suggest calling in to order take-out if you don't want to risk waiting for a little bit, as they are really busy handling both dine-in and take-out orders constantly.
Not great service, but really good food. 36822 review-favorite-thai-places-dined-restaurant favorite-thai-places-dined-restaurant http://www.thaitom.feedback/review-favorite-thai-places-dined-restaurant 8 8 8 0 0 0 This is one of my favorite Thai places. I've never dined in at this restaurant and have always done take out because of how crowded and small the place is. BEST FOOD: pad Thai, fried rices One of the best pad Thai places I've had, although on some occasions it is a little dry and looks burnt (but still incredibly flavorful). I usually don't get the pad Thai though because I'm a sucker for their fried rices SERVICE: long waits, impatient Because of how busy the restaurant is, the staff seems impatient most of the times I've been there to order my food. It has a very "you, next, how about you? Okay move along" vibe which isn't the best experience. getting take out can sometimes take a 15 minute wait, so sometimes we order, drop off our stuff at a friends place and come back to pick up our food. SEATING: limited Definitely recommend getting takeout! Does not detract from the food experience, if anything allows you to not have done in a crowded space.
This is one of my favorite Thai places. My wife and I stopped in for a quick bite to eat and thankfully there was no line. This place is really really really small but that kind of adds to its charm. We were seated in the back corner of the restaurant. I'm not an avid Thai Food kind of guy so I asked the waitress to bring me her favorite Entree'. It ended up being he Garlic Pepper Chicken. It was pretty good especially near the end of it when all the sauces and ingredients mixed. My wife and I also shared an appetizer; the fried spring rolls. They came out super hot but after the minor burn the egg rolls were delicious. I give "Thai Tom" 4 starts because of the cramp area we ate in and it seemed a bit dirty in that spot but the overall experience was dope!
I’ll start by saying “Thai Tom” is awesome! 36820 review-cousin-recent-uw-graduate-took cousin-recent-uw-graduate-took http://www.thaitom.feedback/review-cousin-recent-uw-graduate-took 8 8 8 0 0 0 My cousin (a recent UW graduate) took me to Thai Tom's for lunch. It's his favorite Thai restaurant, and he mentioned that his overseas friends from Southeast Asia always crave it. The restaurant is located on University Ave (or "The Ave") and is literally a hole-in-the-wall. Folks dining in can squeeze into the few tables, or like us opt for sitting at the bar and watch the show! A chef with some serious moves is mixing up spices and fires four woks at a time with flames blazing. His T-shirt reads "My pain is my path." There's also a dishwasher and prep area nearby. We shared two dishes, both 2-star spiciness (max is five). Tofu Phad See You Again was excellent. Flat noodles, good wok-breath, and this unusual two-level flavor of being sweet at first, followed by a spicy kick on the aftertaste. Chicken Pad Thai was also pretty good. It was not as sweet but had a nice peanut sauce. Overall, 4-stars! I like the fact that everything is cooked to order and is piping hot with full flavors. Portion-sizes tend to be good enough to share.
My cousin (a recent UW graduate) took me to Thai Tom’s for lunch. It’s his favorite Thai restaurant, and he mentioned that his overseas friends from Southeast Asia always crave it. 36819 review-good-food-bad-service-meh good-food-bad-service-meh http://www.thaitom.feedback/review-good-food-bad-service-meh 8 8 8 0 0 0 The Good: Food The Bad: Service The Meh: Cash Only My fiancé and I went here on a not very busy weekday around 2 pm for a late lunch. Let me set the scenery for you: For a usually packed house place, Thai Tom was, for once, surprisingly pretty barren -- like maybe 5 people in the whole place. So we were seated within minutes of arriving. Our waitress hurries us to our tiny, two-seat table and quickly asks us if we know what we want within 2 minutes of us being seated. Okaaaaaaaay... A little weird to be so pushy in a more than half-empty restaurant, but whatever. Geez, lady, we're not slot machines. You can't just pull the lever as soon as we get here and expect an answer. We both order the shrimp pad thai, watching from our seats as the Thai chefs heat hot oil over a wide carbon steel wok. Their hands quickly moving the fresh ingredients into the hot wok and stirring and flipping with such crazy fast precision. Our food arrives not 10 minutes later, all piping hot and fragrant with spices. A little bit of bean sprouts, some preserved radishes, scallions, tamarind paste, fish sauce, chili peppers, scrambled eggs, and about 5 large shrimps all mixed in with medium-sized rice noodles. So incredibly delicious. So tangy, sweet, sour, and a touch salty all at once. *DROOLS* Needless to say, we devoured it in a few minutes flat. Before we even finish our plates though, our waitress comes by and drops the check. I look around the joint and see that this tiny 20-seater restaurant is still rather empty. We wait a few minutes to finish our food, and then pay the check. As soon as we pay it, our waitresss comes back, picks it up, and is cleaning our table as soon as we get up. I mean, I am all for efficiency, but hurrying customers in a very empty restaurant is not cool. Not cool at all. Seriously, girl, you need to chill the frick out. And let your customers enjoy their darn food and experience. One less star for their less-than-exemplary customer service. 4-stars for the great, quick Thai food.
The Good: Food The Bad: Service The Meh: Cash Only My fiancé and I went here on a not very busy weekday around 2 pm for a late lunch. Now, it's tiny and cash only, but plates are $8.50 and they get people in and out so the wait isn't bad. You will have to wash your hair when you get home though because of all the food steam, since they cook in the seating area. G
What! Just stop reading and head over. You will have to wash your hair when you get home though because of all the food steam, since they cook in the seating area. G
2016-07-20T16:43+0000

She wasn't wrong! Although there was limited seating, the service, the food and the environment was warm and welcoming. We sat at the bar in front of the stove which was pretty cool since we had front row seats of watching the food being made. The wait for food was a little longer than expected but it was the dinner rush and it was so worth it! I ordered "Pad See You Again" and it was delicious until the last bite. I had to pace myself since it was hot from coming off the stove fresh! Note: cash only so come prepared! Also, my water was constantly being refilled (I tend to drink a lot during meals so this is huge for me). I would definitely come back whenever I visit Seattle but probably get it to-go since the space is super small.
This was my first visit to Seattle and my friend (a local) told me that this was the best Thai food ever. 36796 review-didn-meet-thai-tom-wish didn-meet-thai-tom-wish http://www.thaitom.feedback/review-didn-meet-thai-tom-wish 10 10 10 0 0 0 I didn't get to meet Thai Tom himself, but I wish I could because I'd give him a high five, maybe even a hug! This isn't your trendy Thai spot; this is your local, small, absolutely delicious kind of Thai spot. Tom knows Thai and this place was great! This place does only accepts cash, and most likely you will have to wait. But, it's worth it, and also, a dish is around $8, what a steal! You watch them cook up your food while listening to some fun party jams. They do not sell alcohol, but hey, go next door afterwards :) Food - I tried the pad Thai, pad see ew, and the big noodle dish. All delightful!! I highly recommend this place! Next time I'm in the area, I'll be back to try more!
I didn’t get to meet Thai Tom himself, but I wish I could because I’d give him a high five, maybe even a hug! 36795 review-think-literally-hole-wall-seating think-literally-hole-wall-seating http://www.thaitom.feedback/review-think-literally-hole-wall-seating 10 10 10 0 0 0 I think this is literally as hole in the wall as you can get, the seating area is the size of a narrow living room. We were seated right at the counter by the chef. Although some reviewers thought it was unsanitary I thought it was almost nicer because the food just tasted extra hot and fresh. The menu is written on a wooden paddle with no prices so I had no idea how much I was even paying though til the end. I got the tofu pad thai and thai milk tea. I think I can safely say this is probably the best pad thai I've had in Washington so far! The sauce was perfect balance between sweet and salty. I loved the dryness of the noodle. A lot of places drench their noodles in peanut sauce and it all agglutinates together. This was definitely not a problem here, the noodles stayed separate but was still full of flavor. My pet peeve is when thai restaurants pile a bunch of dry bean sprouts on top as your only source of veggie in the dish. Fortunately, I did not have this problem and I got a bunch of tasty veggies such as broccoli and napa cabbage instead. Even thinking about the dish now makes me hungry. Love love this place and wish I could come up here more. I would not recommend coming with a large party or if you're claustrophobic. Environment definitely reminds me of Asia.
I think this is literally as hole in the wall as you can get, the seating area is the size of a narrow living room. It's so deliciously addictive. We came here as a group of 3 and ordered a little bit of everything so that we could get a taste of everything. The spice, the flavor, is just so yum. We had the Tom yum soup, spicy noodle, pad Thai and panang curry. Wish we ordered some to go so we had some for later to snack on. There's always a line. And with the parking situation you never no know how much time you'll have to eat after waiting since space is limited. Can't wait to come back.
Is there crack in their food? Our group of four came in and we ended up sitting at the bar. It's really hot if you sit at the bar because you're literally in front of the workers and the stove and you get to see them cook your food in front of your eyes. It's also cool because they dump your food on your plate for you. I was amazed to see how the cooks were making our food cause they have some sort of system going on with how they pass dishes and stoves and food so I thought that was neat. The only thing I was sad about was that this place is extremely small and they don't have beef so I had to settle for chicken. Not the biggest problem but I looove beef pad Thai over chicken! Service was good here and everyone was nice. The servers might tell you and remind you to keep the bar clear cause the cooks put everyone else's food on the bar for the rest of the restaurant
I loved this place!
